1- Iran has signed the NPT (Non Proliferation Treaty)
The NPT clearly states that all parties have “an inalienable right to nuclear enrichment”. Iran has been progressing towards nuclear power for over 40 years, which started and supported by the western powers during the days of pro-western dictatorship of Shah.
2- Iran did shut down its enrichment activities for as long as two years, in 2003 to appease the UN and wold powers.
However, not only the sanctions against Iran, lead by the American government, were not stopped, Iran was labeled as a member of Axis of Evil during Bush’s neo-conservative government.
3- Iran has not yet enriched Uranium to grades usable for civilian use.
To be able to use this energy for nuclear warheads, minimum enrichment of ~90% is required. Iran is still in the process of accomplishing enrichment to reach levels of 5 to 12%, which coincidentally is what a civilian nuclear grade typically uses for peaceful nuclear energy.
4- it is widely accepted that Iran does not have the know-how to enrich uranium to weapons grade.
5- Iran has never been able to maintain its enrichment cascade up or more than 24 hours.
The IAEA has inspected all Iran’s facilities and has never found even traces of highly enriched uranium.
6- The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has placed cameras in Iran’s nuclear enrichment centers which monitor the process 24/7.
7- Iranian supreme leader of , Ayatollah Ali Khamenie has issued a Fatwa (religious order) against the production and stock piling of nuclear weapons.
8- Iran’s leaders (including president Ahmadinejad) have made it very clear that they believe petroleum is too valuable a resource to burn for energy generation.
9- Iran has had the most number of UN inspectors in its nuclear facilities than any other country in the world.
This is while most American and Israeli nuclear facilities are producing 2nd and 3rd generation of nuclear warheads without allowing any form of inspection by the UN or the IAEA.
10- The following quotes:
“The times of Nuclear bombs and Nuclear threats have passed”
President Ahmadinejad“But, somehow, many people are talking about how Iran’s nuclear program is the greatest threat to the world. In many ways, I think the threat has been hyped”
Dr. ElBaradei – Cheif Director IAEA
